A lot of people are migrating to this great city of ours…Austin Texas! I’ve really noticed all the young people moving here. There are so many things for them to do like bar hop and listen to live music. Sometimes I think to myself…don’t these people have jobs?? How are they bar hopping at noon on a Tuesday??

What about the kids? What about the families?

They deserve to have fun too! I have a beautiful family of my own. My wife and two boys mean the world to me. I know your family is your top priority too. And you need to fill their lives with fun activities to make memories that will last a lifetime. 

Well, I’ve done the research and come up with a list of the top 5 family-friendly activities for you to do in Austin.


Number 1 on the List: Austin Zoo

Austin Zoo: more like a rehabilitation center as they aim to rescue animals and help them return to the wild. 

  • Kids can feed different types of animals. 

  • Austin Zoo has over 300 animals. 

  • Cost: Adults $12 and children $9

  • Hours: Daily from 9.30 am to 6 pm (until 5.30 pm in winter)

Next up is the Thinkery!

  • Thinkery

    • Hands-on learning lab on science, tech, engineering, math, and arts.

    • Cost: Flat fee $23/person

    • Hours: Mon 12-5pm, Tues-Fri 10 am – 5 pm, Sat-Sun 10am-5pm

Austin Aquarium

Austin Nature & Science Center

  • Hands-on approach to learning about the natural world with indoor/outdoor exhibits

  • Cost: Free

  • Location: Zilker Park

  • Hours: Mon-Sat 9-5 & Sun 12-5pm

Last but not least…my favorite family activity is an iconic Austin spot.

Peter Pan Mini-Golf

  • Opened since 1948 & has 2-18-hole courses

  • Cost: $7 adults and $5 for kids

  • BYOB

  • Hours: Sun-Thurs 9 am – midnight  & Fri-Sat 9 am – 1 am
